My Skincare Regimen

It was 2009–I went into the dermatologist, vulnerable, no makeup and a little scared. The doctor was running behind and from the first few minutes with me, I could tell her time was not invested in this appointment. She had better things to get to. She basically said all of my coloring, dark circles and acne were hereditary. There was nothing she could do and no product she could give me to help. Her advice — to invest in some good makeup. She finished that sentence with one foot out the door.
She didn’t feel how vulnerable I was in that moment. I was crushed. I called my mom sobbing like a little 5 year old because it wasn’t easy for me to take that step.
On my way home, I went right to the mall, sat in the Bobbie Brown chair, told them what the derm said and they literally picked me back up off the floor and took advantage of my sweet pitiful face that was in need of “all the things.” Hundreds of dollars later, I was on my way home with endless makeup products to cover up my face.
It wasn’t until later that I really looked into my skin’s health. After I had kids + hormonal acne came into play, did I look for some answers. There were points of time that if I did not have my makeup bag with me, I would have a small panic attack. My husband can attest to this.
But then, I learned. I researched. I listened to other’s stories like mine. Clean beauty was taking over and changing the game + was the diet that most skin needed. My skin needed that diet in many ways.
I came across Beautycounter this year and it was thanks to a friend that introduced me to clean beauty and educated me on what the toxins were doing to my skin. After trying products and finding what worked for me, I finally saw clear skin maintenance. My face had a shine/glow, my acne scarring was disappearing, and I went to the beach over the 4th of July without makeup on for the first time in a LONG time. If you know, you know.
There is no better way to share my partnership with Beautycounter & sharing important products with others then for them to get a small peak into my journey. Thank you for following along. Xo
